I was a Facebook agnostic. Yeah, it was handy for micro-conversations and the occasional photo from faraway friends and family. But I didn’t get around to checking it all that often (maybe 1x/week). Then I found there are all kinds of groups to join, like Amnesty International and World Wildlife Fund. So I started checking for updates most days. Then, I discovered that there are many well-known writers on Facebook. Writers that will accept friend requests. Whoa. I’m Facebook Friends with people like Cynthia & Gregg Leitich Smith, Libba Bray, Laurie Halse Anderson and Eoin Colfer. I know they will not take me to the airport, watch my kids or help me move. They’re Facebook Friends, not meatspace friends. But still. Even though some days I’m just too busy to turn on the computer, I haven’t resorted to stealing a laptop at Starbucks to check my account…
